LIVE UNITED Chili CookOff KickOff
October 6, 2009 – 6pm-8pm -
St. Mary’s Parish Center
(doors open at 5pm for contestants / agency reps)

DJ - Stan Guljas
Mayor's LIVE UNITED proclamation

Like it bold and hot? Maybe just a little bit spicy? Think you have the best chili in town?

As we launch into our LIVE UNITED Campaign the Jennings County United Way would like to invite the entire community to be a part on October 6th - You decide how! You are invited to enter your chili, or just bring your family and friends to sample everyone else’s! Chili will be judged by the community present, with “votes” being donations placed in voting jars. We will have games for the kids, too!

Entry will be $10 at the door, $5 per student (18-5) and kids under 5 are free. Contestants carrying in a crockpot of chili will be admitted free, bring two pots and two enter free- the second pots will be added to the UNITED Chili. Advance tickets can be purchased from Kathryn Johnson, Campaign Chair or by emailing or calling the United Way office.

Bringing people together to advance the common good.
United Way was built on the belief that together, we can accomplish more than any individual or organization can alone. We're bringing together the hearts, hands and minds (and on Oct 6th the chili!) of our community to make it the best place possible for children and families. It's a big goal. A brighter vision of the future shared by individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. Lend yours to the movement. United, there's nothing we can't do.

Mary Hougland, chairperson for the kickoff has set a goal of raising $10,000 that evening. Contestants and community alike are encouraged to bring family and friends, sample the chili contest entries, vote for your favorites and then sit down together with family, and friends to enjoy a bowl of UNITED Chili. You don't have to bring chili to come be a part, you don't even have to *like* chili! Retired Navy Chef Chief Massey’s Ship Grilled Cheese Sandwiches will be available for $1 each.
Tentative October 6th timeline:
